Sustainable Life

Hello you, we're the Congleton Sustainability Group: a hard working alliance of Town Councillors, concerned residents, community group leaders and experts in their fields. We love our town and we want to do what we can to make sure it stays this wonderful way! Together we have joined Congleton to the Transition Network; like minded community groups working to deduce how a sustainable future might look...

What can we do to help then?

Experts tell us we are running out of fossil fuels, fish and minerals; the world is warming up due to our actions; so we are working to nudge the town towards a more sustainable future.

Our projects include: improving cycling and public transport in the town; generating power from the River Dane; organising a car sharing scheme for our town and the towns around us; campaigns to improve energy efficiency of buildings; working with our schools to be eco-aware and eco-ambitious; devising local food schemes to reduce food miles and connect the town with the wonderful food growing capability around us.

Sustainable Living is a lifestyle that attempts to reduce an individual's, or society's use of the Earth's natural resources and his/her own resources. Practitioners of sustainable living often attempt to reduce their carbon footprint by altering methods of transportation, energy consumption and diet.

Altering methods of transportation - walking, cycling and sharing cars more; using public transport when possible and avoiding flying. Consuming closer to home, producing our food closer to home, playing closer to home.

Altering energy consumption by devising renewable energy schemes for the town, our businesses and for our homes; insulating properties to a very high standard; buying less; recycling more; wasting nothing.

Creating more work locally, growing and making more food locally.

Altering our diet - eating more local food, eating less meat and dairy produce.

And if all of that sounds dull and boring...... Well it isn't because we play hard too, we aim to make our campaigns fun for people - average westerners aren't the happiest people on the planet after all! That's why we've created Beartown's Food scheme.

Thanks for reading through this and if you've got any questions or if you'd like to get involved then please do give me a call or drop me an email, I'd love to hear from you!
